Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT PhD Thesis INVESTIGATION OF APPLICABILITY OF T ROM BE WALL IN ELAZI? CONDITIONS Irian KURTBAŞ Fırat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Mechanical Education 2005, Page:71 In this study, unsteady and three dimensional heat transfer equations were solved numerically for a passive heating room using values of hourly average radiation in winter mounts in Elazığ. With this aim, a room having volume of 44.8 m3 (4x4x2.8 dimensions) was considered. Variable heat flux boundary condition depending on time was applied on absorber surface using values of obtained hourly average radiation. Convection boundary condition was used on glass surface by using overall heat transfer coefficient. Likewise, convection boundary condition was used different overall heat transfer coefficient on the walls and ceiling of the room and constant surface temperature (6 °C) was used for sole of the room. Experiments were carried out manifacturing a model room having 1x1.2x1.2 dimensions in order to able to corroborate of numerical solution. Governing equations for builded model room were solved numerically and compared with experimental results. It was seen mat the model predictions agree quite well with experimental data. End of the study, effect of glass overall heat transfer coefficient and ambient temperature on Nusselt number was investigated. Key Words: Passive heating, solar energy, numerical solution, variable heat flux, overall heat transfer coefficient, radiation. XIII
