Discussion analysis of 24 january 2020 earthquake news in elazig local media: The case of channel 23 and channel Fırat

The media has been in an important position with its influence all over the world. Local media broadcasting in a certain region, which is one of the sub-titles it contains; It attracts attention because it meets the information needs of the people in the region. Apart from broadcasting in the local media region, which has survived through various difficulties, it has the ability to make the necessary efforts to solve the problems in the region. It is in the nature of human beings to acquire knowledge and wonder. At this point, the importance of the news comes to the fore. News, which is the process of transferring an event to individuals; It can also contain the ideologies of the person who created it. In this respect, news should be produced by ignoring ideologies while creating news. Otherwise, the principle of impartiality may be ignored in the news. In this respect, the individual who is in the position of the receiver should analyze the news well while reading it. Within the scope of this research, earthquake-themed news in the main news bulletins of Kanal 23 and Kanal Fırat Television broadcasting in Elazig were examined. The news published between January 24, 2020 and May 24, 2020 were analyzed by Teun Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis method. In the research, it has been determined that the news processing methods of Kanal Fırat and Kanal 23 televisions are in the same direction. In the news analyzed, it was seen that the two television channels focused on the same events and the same discourses. It has been determined that the announcers in both channels convey the news in a critical and sometimes constructive manner. They also conveyed some events to the audience by interpreting them, using positive sentences and relying on a certain ideology.
