Evaluation of analgesia efficacy of analgesia applied for postoperative analgesia in patients undergoing elective laparotomy with nociception index (ANİ) monitoring

AİM: In our study, we aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the methods used for postoperative analgesia in patients undergoing laparotomy under general anesthesia by ANI monitoring. METHOD: ASA I-II patients between 18-65 years of age were included in our prospective observational study. 59 patients included in the study were monitored with ANI and their follow-ups were completed and their peroperative records were examined and compared with the postoperative analgesia method; Group 1 (n = 28, paracetamol + tramadol) and Group 2 (n = 31, epidural analgesia) were grouped. ANI values, NRS, heart rate, noninvasive systolic and diastolic blood pressures, nausea and vomiting were recorded. In the 15th minute, NRS ≥4 patients underwent recovery analgesia by the acute pain nurse in the recovery unit. Data were analyzed statistically by using IBM SPSS Statistics 23 program. RESULTS: The mean age of the 59 patients included in the study was 56.41 ± 12.24. 30 (50.8%) were female and 29 (49.2%) were male. There were 28 patients in Group 1 and 31 patients in Group 2. Fifteen (53.5%) of 28 patients in Group 1 and 15 (% 48.3) of 31 patients in Group 2 underwent recovery analgesia in 15th minute. ANI and NRS values were recorded as 60,75 ± 14,08 4,63 ± 2,82, 30. min. 68,61 ± 13,13, 3,63 ± 2,39, respectively. There was no significant difference between the groups. No correlation was found between NRS and ANI values. CONCLUSİON: Considering the results of our study that did not show any relation between ANI and NRS values in the early postoperative period in laparotomy patients, we think that more studies regarding usage of ANI monitoring in the early postoperative period are needed.
