Abstract (EN)

Nowadays, the usage area of electric vehicles is increasing. With this increase, electric vehicle technologies are developing day by day. Energy storage systems are one of the most important system in electric vehicles. Lithium-ion battery packs are mostly used as energy storage systems. In electric vehicles, battery performance affect vehicle performance and user experience directly. Therefore, lithium-ion battery technology are a field where extensive researches and studies are carried out. One of the most important component of batteries are an electronic control unit named battery management system and an algorithm running on it. Right way to using a battery efficient and safe is using a proper battery management system. For this purposes, battery management systems must fulfill lots of tasks perfectly. In this study, proper battery management system features for electric vehicles have been identified and a novel battery management system hardware has been developed accordingly. The developed system consists of one "master" and one "slave" electronic unit in accordance with the modular topology. The design steps and cost analysis of the developed battery management system are presented in the thesis. The important tasks that must be fulfilled in order for the developed battery management system to operate the battery safely and efficiently have been tested on a physical test battery which consist of 12 lithium ion batteries and the performance of the hardware is evaluated and experimental results are given.
