Thermal modelling and analysis of electric vehicle's battery package

Nowadays, the number of electric vehicles has increased rapidly and also same growing for the scientific studies which about them. Accurate analysis of the battery pack, which is one of the most critical subsystems for the electric vehicle technology, influences important performance criteria that directly concern the user from driving performance to the range. In the scope of thesis study, electrical and thermal mathematical models of the lithium-ion battery cell to be used in the battery pack of the electric vehicle were created in Matlab & Simulink software. Simulation outputs were confirmed by the test values and thermal analyses performed in the Ansys software. The battery pack of the Tesla Model S is modeled in the Matlab & Simulink environment. The battery pack was thermally verified by the analyses performed in the Ansys software and the electrical outputs were compared with the vehicle's catalog specifications. In order to make simulations on the vehicle, electric motor and vehicle dynamics models of the vehicle and driver, road conditions and environmental conditions models were created. Also, in order to compare driving performance with standard values, NEDC was preferred from standard driving cycles. In the road conditions and environmental conditions models, it is simulated daily, one-year and eight-year periods under the seasonal temperature values of each city and the routes determined in the provinces of Istanbul and Erzurum. The electrical performance, thermal performance and aging factor of the battery are made ready for discussion by graphs.
