m SUMMARY Masters Thesis EFFECT OF THE ELECTRON TEMPERATURE ON THE ELECTRIC CONDUCTIVITIES OF THE IONOSPHERIC PLASMA Ibrahim ÜNAL Fırat University Graduate School of Science and Technology Department of Physics 1997, Page: 66 In this thesis, the effect of electron temperature on the electric conductivities of the ionospheric E and F regions plasma have been studied for geographic coordinate of (38° K, 39° D). The conductivities have been obtained for cold and warm plasma by solving Langevin equation. The conductivity expressions have been separated into two parts as real and imaginary. The altitudinal, diurnal, seasonal and wave frequency variations of the real and imaginary parts of the conductivities have been calculated.The calculations have been carried out for the case of parallel, perpendicular and with an angle of the wave propagation to the geomagnetic field. Although, the differences between cold and warm plasma conductivities are small from 120 km to about 350 km, after 350 km the differences becomes larger. During daytime, the conductivity of the cold plasma is much larger than the conductivity of the warm plasma, reverse hold true at night. If wave frequency is less than plasma frequency, the conductivity of the cold plasma is larger than the conductivity of the warm plasma, otherwise the conductivity of the warm plasma becomes larger. It is also shown that seasonal variation of the conductivities are different. KEY WORDS : Ionosphere, cold plasma, warm plasma, conductivity.
