Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to examine the differences in anaerobic power and speed parameters based on weight classes in elite male Muay Thai athletes. The study included 42 volunteer competitive male Muay Thai athletes. A cross-sectional comparative research design was adopted for this study. The athletes were categorized into three different weight classes based on their body weight: 60 kg (n=14), 70 kg (n=14), and 80 kg (n=14). Anaerobic power levels of the participants were measured using the Wingate Anaerobic Power Test (WAnT), and their speed performance was assessed through 10-meter and 30-meter sprint tests. The data obtained were analyzed using the SPSS 26.0 statistical software. Significant differences were found for Peak Power (W) between the 60 kg and 70 kg groups (p=0.016) and between the 70 kg and 80 kg groups (p=0.003). It was observed that the 80 kg athletes had the highest peak power values. For Mean Power (W), significant differences were identified between the 60 kg (p=0.003), 70 kg (p=0.021), and 80 kg (p<0.001) weight classes. Athletes in the 80 kg class demonstrated the best performance in this measure. For Mean Power (W/kg), significant differences were found between the 60 kg and 70 kg groups (p=0.019) and between the 60 kg and 80 kg groups (p=0.029). Athletes in the 60 kg class were able to produce more power relative to their body weight. No statistically significant differences were found for other parameters across the groups. The results indicate that power profiles in Muay Thai athletes exhibit significant differences based on weight class, and these parameters should be considered in training planning and performance evaluations.
