Abstract (EN)

The intensive acute exercises results in too much oxygenconsumption and hence produce excessive free radicals and damage oftissues. İn this study, to investigate the effects of thyme tea on free radicalformation and antioxidan system 18 elit volunteer wrestlers are joined thestudy. The wrestlers were randomly divited into two groups to fromexperiment and control groups. The subjects wrested five times during the study periodaccording to F.İ.L.A rules. The measurement are performed before andafter the thyme tea loading. Study groups drunk thyme tea three times aday in 35 day period before loading after first measurement. The total antioxidant capacity (TAC), malondialdehyde (MDA), totalsulphydryls group (RSH) levels were determined in blood samples whichwere taken before match (Mön), immediately after the mach (Mson), 24 hour(M24), and 48 hours(M48) after the match.Measurement results are showed that there are sıgnificantincrease in MDA and TAC values and significant drop in RSH values afterthyme tea loading.İn comparison between experiment and control group is notexhibited any meaningful result before thyme tea loading, however afterthyme tea loading a meaningful incrase absenced TAC values and dropsin MDA values in experiment groups. The experimental measurement and analysis performed inthis study conclude that thyme tea loading definetely has positive effectson wrestlers MDA and TCA values but no significant change is found onRSH values.
