Abstract (EN)

Purpose: The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the relationship between explosive power and ACTN3 R577X polymorphism on elite women volleyball players. Method: One hundred and seventy one voluntary subjects, including 72 elite Turkish women volleyball players and 99 university students (ages +18), attended to the current study. Before the jumping tests 2cc forearm venous blood samples were collected. After taking anthropometric measurements jumping tests (static vertical jump, CMJ) were performed to evalute explosive power performances. ACTN3 R577X polymorphism analysis were studied for the blood samples. Chi-square analysis were used to evaluate the distrubation values of ACTN3 R577X polymorphism. Three Linear regression analysis were used to investigate the statistical relationship between ACTN3 polymorphism and physiological parameters. Results: According to the statistical analysis; there was no significant difference on ACTN3 R577X polymorphism groups' genotype distribution. The genotype had similar distribution for both volleyball players and university students. Moreover, there was no significant difference for jumping results on ACTN3 R577X polymorphism RR, RX and XX genotypes for volleyball players and sedantery group. Conclusion: The results of the current study shows that there is no relationship between ACTN3 R557X polymorphism and explosive power on elite female volleyball players. Key words: ACTN3, volleyball, explosive power
