Abstract (EN)

In this study the effects of Elves technique to fifth grade student's listening attitudes and their success have been analyzed. In this work pretest-posttest design and experimental group and control group design have been used. 40 students attending fifth grade at the second semester of the 2017-2018 educational term form the study group. Experimental and control groups each have 20 students. Implementation process of the study lasted eight weeks each one of which has 4 course hours. At the experimental group, 8 listening texts have been teached with lesson plans prepared in accordance with the Elves method. At the control group, the same listening texts have been teached in accordance with the Turkish Curriculum. Before and after the implementation process, students at each group took the attitude scale towards listening and the achievement test towards understanding what they have listened. At the end of the study, SPSS 22 (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) packaged software was used for the analyses of the quantitative data. As for the statistical methods; within the groups paired student t-test was used to measure pretest-posttest change, between-groups variance unpaired t-test and covariance analysis were used. Besides; as for the descriptive statistics arithmetic average, standard deviation, percent and frequency values belonged to each group were clarified. According to the data obtained from the research, the increase of the experimental group students' listening attitudes and listening successes was significantly higher than the control group students. In consideration of the result data, it seemed that Elves technique improved the students' listening attitudes and their listening skills.
