Amir Nogai and struggle for domination in Desth-i Qipchag

As a result of the migration from east to west, the last great state was established in Desht-i Qipchaq is Ulus of Jochi or the Golden Horde as it is known. Some amirs, who came to the fore in various period of the history of this state reached a superior position even than the khans with the power they gained. The first of these amirs is Nogai, who appeared in the foundation period of the state. The name of Nogai, who has close ties with the dynasty due to his descent from Genghis Khan, first appears at the battles with Hulagu during the reign of Berke Khan. Nogai, who was sent to the west after peace that was made with the Ilkhanates during the reign of Mengü Temür, he declared the city of Sakchi as the unofficial capital and began to be active in the west of the state. During the periods of Töde Mengü and Tula Buka Khans, Nogai started to increase his influence and to behave according to his own benefits. This rising period which reached its peak during the time of Tokhta Khan, ended with the minted coin in his name around 1295. This act sharply disrupted the friendly relations between Nogai and the khan. As a result, Nogai won the first war between the two sides but lost his life at the second war in Kukanlık area. Nogai, whose career lasted for more than forty years ended in this way, took part in almost all events within the state. So, a study of the Nogai's life also brings an alternative perspective to the 13th centuries history of Ulus of Jochi.
