Abstract (EN)

The genus Erodium belongs to the Geraniaceae family and is represented by 26 taxa, 16 of which are endemic in its widespread flora. Erodium species have traditionally been used in folk medicine to alleviate various ailments. However, these non-standard, haphazard uses also necessitate the verification of the results of the first oral events with scientific data and the emergence of the most effective forms of use. There are limited studies on the biological activities of Erodium hendrikii Alpınar (Güdük İğnelik) which is endemic to Gümüşhane. In this study, the total phenolic, flavonoid, antioxidant, antimicrobial and anticarcinogenic contents of the extracts obtained from different parts of E. hendrikii (flower, leaf, root and root bark) by different extraction solvents (100% and 70% ethanol) were investigated and total phenolic was also given by LC-MS/MS analysis. In particular, the antimicrobial and anticancer activities of plant extracts were investigated for the first time. According to the obtained findings, the biological activities of the extracts Ç1 (Flower-%100 EtOH), Y1 (Leaf-%100 EtOH) and Ç2 (Flower-%70 EtOH), Y2 (Leaf-%70 EtOH), which are some of the central soils, were higher than the other extracts (underground). According to LC-MS/MS applications, the main phenolics were determined as ellagic acid (23142.738 µg/g extract), gallic acid (4230.406 µg/g extract) and rutin (5639.335 µg/g extract). On the other hand, except Ç1 and KK2 (Root Bark-%70 EtOH), it was observed that all extracts had the highest antimicrobial activity against Y. pseudotuberculosis with MIC value of 1 µg/mL. In addition, the antiproliferative properties of Y1 Extract have been demonstrated in a way that depends on the extent of human breast cancer. When all the results are evaluated together, it has been revealed that E. henrikii has a high potential for use in the pharmaceutical and food industries as a natural, cheap and alternative source with its biological activities.
