Abstract (EN)

The role of the success of systemic inflammatory index values in preoperative routine screening of patients undergoing hysteroscopy with a preliminary diagnosis of endometrial polyp in predicting the final pathology results AIM: Endometrial polyps are a common gynecological problem associated with abnormal uterine bleeding, infertility, and malignant conditions. Degenerative processes and changes in the morphological structure of erythrocytes can be observed in polyps. In this study, the role of inflammatory indices in complete blood count in predicting pathology results before hysteroscopic surgery performed due to the preliminary diagnosis of endometrial polyp was examined. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Preoperative systemic inflammatory index values (MPV, PLR, NLR, PDW, MLR), ultrasound findings, hysteroscopy and biopsy results of 1743 cases who underwent hysteroscopy with the preliminary diagnosis of endometrial polyp in our clinic between 01.01.2014 and 31.04.2024 were retrospectively examined. RESULTS: According to the final pathology results, two groups were created; "proliferative endometrium" (Group 1) and "endometrial polyp" (Group 2). The groups were compared in terms of age, BMI, abnormal uterine bleeding, infertility history, and endometrial thickness measured by TVUSG. While endometrial thickness was found to be significantly higher in Group 2, no difference was detected in other parameters. Additionally, there was no significant difference in gravida, parity, abortion, ectopic pregnancy and number of living children. While the PDW mean showed a statistically significant difference between Group 1 and Group 2, no significant difference was found in other hematological parameters. CONCLUSION: This study emphasizes the importance of systemic inflammatory indexes in re-evaluating the preliminary diagnosis in patients who underwent hysteroscopy with the preliminary diagnosis of endometrial polyp. While there was no significant difference in terms of hemoglobin, WBC, MPV, NLR, MLR and PLR averages, the PDW average was found to be significant in preoperative prediction. Keywords: Endometrial polyp, hysteroscopy, endometrial biopsy.
