Özet (EN)

Objectives: In our study, we tried to evaluate the relation of endometrial polyps to the body total oxidant level, total antioxidant level, oxidative stress index and thiol-disulfide homeostasis which is shown to be related with oxidant and antioxidant levels. At the same time the demographic properties and blood panels of patients with endometrial polyps and those without were evaluated. Material And Methods: This prospective case-control study was performed on patients who underwent office hysteroscopy due to abnormal uterine bleeding at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Ankara City Hospital Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic. A total of 70 cases which consist of 35 cases (endometrial polyp group) with endometrial polyp and 35 cases (control group) without endometrial polyp were included in the study. The demographic characteristics and office hysteroscopy findings of the patients were recorded. Patients' total oxidant level, total antioxidant level, thiol - disulfide levels and complete blood count parameters were evaluated via blood samples taken prior to the operation. The statistical comparison was done using independent sample t test and Mann- Whitney U test. In the comparison of categorical data, chi-square test was used. In all tests, p ≤ 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The comparison of demographic characteristics (age, gravida, parity, height, weight, body mass index, menopausal status) of the two groups (endometrial polyp and control groups) yielded no significant difference (p > 0,05). The comparison of serum complete blood count parameters, serum oxidative stress parameters (total oxidant level, total antioxidant level and oxidative stress index) and serum dynamic thiol - disulfide parameters (total thiol, native thiol, disulfide, disulfide / total (thiol, disulfide / native thiol, native thiol / total thiol) also resulted in no significant difference between the groups (p > 0,05). Conclusions: In endometrial polyp cases, there is no significant difference in terms of total oxidant level, total antioxidant level, oxidative stress index and thiol- disulfide parameters compared to the control group. Keywords: Thiol, total oxidant status, total antioxidant status, endometrial polyp, disulfid
