Abstract (EN)
In this study, the purpose was to determine the advantages and disadvantages of endoscopy in tympanoplasty surgery by comparing the audiological results, graft achievements, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores, Glasgow Benefit Inventory (GBI) scores, surgical times and canaloplasty requirements of endoscopic and microscopic tympanoplasty surgeries performed in our clinic. This study was conducted in a prospective, randomized and controlled design. A total of 72 patients who underwent tympanoplasty in Tokat Gaziosmanpasa University Hospital Otolaryngology Clinic between March 2019 and February 2020 were included in this study. Endoscopy was applied to 39 ears of 36 patients, and microscope-assisted tympanoplasty was performed for 36 ears of 36 patients. The 6th month data of the patients were used to evaluate the success of the surgeries in the study. In the present study, no significant differences were detected between the group that underwent endoscopic tympanoplasty and the group that underwent microscopic tympanoplasty in terms of graft success and audiological healing values (p>0.05). Canaloplasty was required in 8 patients in the microscopic group, and was not required in the endoscopic group. The requirement for canaloplasty was found to be higher at a significant level in the microscopic group (p<0.05). Postoperative 12th hour VAS score was found to be significantly lower in the endoscopic group (p<0.05). The duration of surgery was found to be significantly shorter in the endoscopic group (p<0.05). We believe that endoscopic tympanoplasty is a more advantageous method in appropriate cases since it is a less invasive option, cosmetic results are better, postoperative pain is lower, and the duration of surgery is less. Key words : Microscopic, endoscopic, graft, tympanoplasty
