The relationship between learning styles, test anxieties and academic achievements of students in industrial vocational high school (The sample of Kocaeli-Gebze)

This research was carried out in order to examine the relationship between students? learning styles, test anxieties and academic achievements. The research consists of five main parts. These are as follows; Introduction, Literature Review, Methodology, Findings and Interpretation, Conclusion discussion and Recommendations.The scope of this research is the students of Anatolian Technical, Technical and Industrial Vocational High School in Kocaeli?s province,Gebze, in 2007-2008 Academic Year. 658 students constitute the sample of this research.In this research, in order to determine students? learning styles, Marmara Learning Styles Scale (MLSS), the level of test anxiety, Test Anxiety Inventory (TAI) and academic achievements, primary school graduation grades, the average of 9th, 10th, 11th grades were used. Also, for the demographic variables, a Personal Information Form was prepared by the researcher.In this research, percentage and frequencies of demographic variables were determined. Also, students? learning styles, test anxiety and level of academic achievements were tested; whether scale variables vary depending on demographic variables was analysed and the relationship among nominal scales was examined. The obtained data was analysed and interpreted with the help of SPSS for Windows 13.0 by using statistical techniques.In the result of the study, there is a statistically negative significant difference between Marmara Learning Styles Scale (MLSS) tactility and perseverance subdimensions and Test Anxiety Inventory (TAI) worry subdimension scores, Marmara Learning Styles Scale (MLSS) audio subdimension and academic achievement scores. Also, there is a statistically positive significant difference among all subdimensions of MLSS except for enlightment and audio; and among all dimensions of TAI.Both teachers and students should be made conscious of learning styles. By changing students? ways of perceiving tests, test anxieties should be lessened by changing.Key Words : Learning Styles, Test Anxieties
