Economic and environmental prioritisation of excotic tree species to be used in industrial afforestation

Abstract (EN)

28.6% of Turkey (22,342,935 ha) is covered by forests. While 57% of these forests are productive, 43% is in degraded forests. In addition to increasing forest areas, production and consumption quantities for sustainable forest management are important in determining future protection strategies. Industrial plantations in Turkey is met by imports of about 8.5% of the industrial wood consumption of wood is an important tool in ensuring security of supply. In this study, many factors that are effective in the selection of potential exotic EA species were evaluated by the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method and prioritization of potential species was carried out. According to the results of the study, radiata pine in the exotic tree species among the radiata pine, maritime pine, eucalyptus, I-214 hybrid poplar and douglas should be used primarily in the potential afforestation areas of Kastamonu and similar areas. Thus, it will be possible to use the most valuable EA areas with optimum efficiency and high economic value.
