Abstract (EN)
In 1999, Tüpraş İzmit Refinery caught fire which was triggered by the Marmara Earthquake and in 2002, Akçagaz Körfez LPG facility explosion took place. These disasters brought a vital question into minds: what will be aftereffects of storing inflammable, explosive and toxic materials near residential areas.In Turkey, parallel with development of the industry, urban population has increased dramatically and unfortunately, this rapid population growth caused irregular urbanization including slums, unplanned buildings, structures that damage the environment, lack of the social facilities and social network areas, industrial facilities located nearby the city and etc. Irregular urbanization causes floods after heavy rainfall because of insufficient infrastructure, growth of the house fires because of narrow streets, illegal and undurable against a possible earthquake structuring because of loose/inadequate control mechanism and inevitable rise in cancer ratio because of industrial air pollution and waste water produced by industrial facilities near residential areas.The main goal of this dissertation is to define risks of the industrial based inflammable, explosive and toxic material storage facilities and to reduce the undesired effects of probable industrial accidents towards local residents.
