A REACTIVE POWER COMPENSATOR FOR INDUSTRIAL LOADS (M.Sc.Thesis) Güngör BAL GAZI UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY August 1988 ABSTRACT Step compensators may be insufficient for industrial loads with fast and continuously changing reaktive power. For improving the power factor of such loads, static thyristor controlled compensators are used. In this study, a thyristor controlled reactor with a fixed capacitor is designed for loads whose reactive power demands change rapidly and continuously. This compensator take into account the reactive component of current load and provides reactive power compensation. The compensator has been used on laboratory type loads, fast and continuous compensation has been observed. Ill
