Abstract (EN)

Energy demand is increasing day by day due to developing technology and increasing population. Responding the increasing energy demand is one of the biggest problems of our age in terms of both economic and environmental protection. Therefore, energy efficiency issue increases its value. Lighting has big potential in terms of energy efficiency due to its high share in the consumed energy. The energy efficiency percentage in lighting can be increased with smart lighting systems. In this study, the energy efficiency percentage when a smart lighting system is applied to a public building whose light sources are controlled manually by the users is examined. In the first section, academic studies on smart lighting systems are examined. In the second section, the literature is reviewed and inform about the relationship between energy efficiency and smart lighting systems, and applications. In the third section, the energy consumption and illuminance level of the existing lighting system in the selected test office is monitored with the smart lighting system software coded in LabVIEW. Later, the proposed smart lighting system is applied for the test office, and the energy consumption and illuminance level of the new system is monitored. In the fourth section, energy efficiency analysis is made and the amount of savings and payback period that the proposed system can provide is examined by using experiment results. In the fifth section, the contribution of the proposed system to energy efficiency and possible improvements are discussed. By using the smart lighting system software, when the light sources are automatically controlled according to time, presence and daylight, it is seen that 69% less energy can be consumed for the current illuminance level and 85% less energy for the minimum illumination level required according to lighting standards.
