Anas B. Mâlik'in hadith at the science place

Being the second fundamental source of Islam, the science and subject of hadith have been studied deeply since the first century because it is related to the words, acts, statements, and creation and ethical qualities of the Prophet (peace be upon him). It is of importance to learn the efforts of the rumor-tellers of hadith, and the methods they applied. The companion memorized and understood the sunna of the Prophet (peace be upon him), after which they brought the words and the meaning – without adding much comment – to the obedient generation following them. Also the obedient generation brought this heritage to the generations following them, and then, the next following ones did the same. Our goal is to learn the efforts and study methods of the savants who served for defending sunna. Scientific efforts and methods of Anas bin Malik among these savants are significant in terms of enlightening our study. Anas bin Malik is one of the companions who acted responsibly in rumoring the hadith. He did not rumor the hadiths from anyone, and also performed carefully in rumoring. Having become distinct scientifically in the period in which he lived, Anas bin Malik was spoken highly of by his masters and peers. In this thesis, the place of Anas bin Malik in the science of hadith was studied. This study is comprised of one introduction part and three parts. In the introduction part, we gave details about the importance, goal, methods, and plan of the study, and the resources utilized in the study. In the part one, the life and personality of Anas bin Malik were discussed. A general overview on him, and his being honored with Islam, death, moral and scientific personality, and characteristics, were addressed. In the part two, we emphasized on the place in the science of hadith. We tried to show that he is a one of the leading hadith-tellers of the hadith science and is among the ones who tell more hadiths. We gave information about Anas bin Malik's style, his statements about writing hadith, his leaf, Anas bin Malik and the Sent Hadith, critics towards Anas bin Malik, his masters, and himself. Also we touched on the lives of some of his famous students. Moreover, we mentioned the cruelty by Haccac to Anas bin Malik. In order to show how the hadith knowledge of him is, we made an examination and a scanning on the Kutub al-Sittah. In this way, we tried to show that he told rumors almost in every subject. Then, the study was finalized with evaluation of rumors from Anas ibn Malik, and the number and subject of them, their distribution in resources, and the conclusion. Learning the rumors and methods of these and similar companions and scholars not only has enabled us to conduct more sound studies in each century, but also is of high importance in terms of protecting the sunna and hadith, the second significant source in the Islam, against the evil-minded ideas, and of learning the methods in preserving this heritage. These studies conducted will enable to learn the studies, efforts and sensitivity to sunnah, of the companions like Anas bin Malik, who served the science in the past.
