A conceptual analysis on biopolitics in the information society: Spatial projection of security

In this study, the spatial transformation of the hierarchical relationship between the observer and the monitored in the context of power is attempted to be presented in a multidimensional way. Observation, which refers to the control relationship, unlike tracking, which is a passive act, served as a normalization tool that transforms subjects into objects. The security needs that increased after the September 11 attacks, preferred to the privacy and freedom rights of individuals, causing not only public spaces but also private spaces to become the subject of surveillance. Security has become a global issue with the government's spread of global risk and threat perceptions through the media. In the study, the power theory conceptualized by Foucault as biopower, the disciplinary society and the concept of surveillance are discussed based on the Panopticon prison model of Jeremy Bentham. In the new spatiality understanding where there are no walls that cause the subjects to lose their subjectivity and turn into objects due to the auto-control they make without entering the closure and surveillance spaces, the field of work of the power in the context of security becomes the subject himself/herself. Because of the surveillance technologies developed in post-modern society, starting from Bauman's fluid modernity theory, the relationship of power expands in a way to dominate the body by destroying the walls of the space. While revealing the process that this domination leads to the normalization society, the transformation of the biopower oversight, which spreads to the private sphere as a means of decentralization, from the horrible Big Brother figure to the individual's desire to reveal himself/herself and his/her private sphere will be explored within the context of this study in its ethical context.
