The effect of the consultancy service based on health promotion model applied to the parents of the disabled person on the care burden and quality of life

Aim: This research was planned to determine the effect of counseling services applied to the parents of a disabled person according to the health promotion model on the burden of care and quality of life. Material and Method: The research preliminary test was designed using an experimental model with a control group of the final test. The universe of the research consists of 515 parents in Educational and Rehabilitation Centers located in Muş province. The sample consisted of 55 randomized experiments from these Centers, 55 control groups and 110 parents. Dec March-October 2021, the data were collected by using the Participant Introduction Form, the Zarit Caregiver Burden Scale and the SF-36 Quality of Life Scale. The parents in the experimental group were given counseling services by the researcher according to the health promotion model. Final test data were obtained by applying forms to the experimental and control group 4 weeks after the preliminary test. In the analysis of the data; number, mean, t-test in dependent groups, percentile, chi-square, t-test in independent groups were used. Results: The mean total scores of the Zarit Caregiver Burden Scale final test experimental group was 51.16±7.05, the control group was 65.94±12.51, the SF-36 Quality of Life Scale all sub-dimension score averages increased in the experimental group, and there was no significant difference in the control group. It was found that the difference between the final test dec averages of the groups was statistically significant (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was found that the counseling applied to the parents of the disabled person according to the health promotion model reduces the burden of care of the parents and improves the quality of life.
