An examination according to several variables marital satisfaction of the parents with disabled children

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between marital satisfaction and control focus of the parents with disabled children. In addiation, it is also aimed to study the marital satisfaction of the families with disabled children according to gender, age, educational background, marital duration, number of children and the disability type of the children.The parents whose children are disabled participated in this study and they are all from Private Training and Rehabilitation Centers in Aksaray city center. The study group consisted of 181 parents (63 fathers and 118 mothers). In this study, The Marriage Life Scale (Tezer, 1996), The Rotter Locus of Control (Dağ, 1991) and Personal Information Form were used. The data were analyzed according to Pearson Moments Correlation Coefficient Technique; for independent groups t-test and one-way ANOVA technique. For the source of the difference, Sheffe test was used.The results indicated that there is not a significant relationship between the marital satisfaction scores and control locus scores of the parents with disabled children. The age group of the couples the duration of the marriage and the number of the children they have a meaningful effect on the marital satisfaction. Moreover, the marital satisfaction scores of the parents of the group did not differ significantly according to the gender, educational background and the types of disabilities of the children. In this study, the above findings are discussed in the related therotical framework and studies; and suggestions for future studies and applications are presented.
