Employment of disabled people and problems encountered: İzmir city case

It is known that, disabled individuals who constitute a significant portion of the total population in our country and majority of them are not included in the employment, also face many problems in the employment processes. The aim of this study is to detect the problems faced by disabled individuals during their employment processes and verify assumptions of our researches. "Disability" concept has been examined in the first section, the following section is mainly focused on disabled employment in Turkey. In the last section, the analysis of the survey which is conducted to detect the problems perceived by the disabled in the employment process is presented. This survey is applied 170 disabled individuals who are employed the hospitals in center of İzmir. As a result of the study, the difficulties experienced by disabled employees, categorized under four factors partly different from literature; these are employment processes and backgrounds, community and disabled individuals education, discrimination, workplace and sector related problems. In general, it is concluded that disabled individuals employed are not perceived any problem about their employment processes and backgrounds, community and disabled individuals education, workplace and sector related problems, however they perceived problem about the in discrimination related difficulties. Problems detected in our research, by arguing the problems that are researched in our work and the problems in literature, in the conclusion part the solutions are proposed for these discovered problems
