Ensuring energy security in the Caucasus and Caspian Basin and its effect in the region

Energy became the key source for transportation and defense industry particularly during wars, and over time, such sources constituted the core of energy policies. Therefore, energy-rich soils became critical for countries in addition to being the target of international actors. For instance, countries in the Caucasus and Caspian Basin – that are important actors in the world's oil production – have been subject to several military, economic and political strategies. In this region, certain countries gained their independence after the end of the Cold War. In this context, it can be uttered that the region has been unstable due to turmoil and remittent policies. Furthermore, the region witnesses issues regarding energy security and energy transport due to terrorist attacks. Major powers such as the US, EU, Russia and China, shaping the world economy, and regional powers including Iran and Turkey, have been in pursuit of getting a share of the energy in the region by various strategies according to their national interests. This study features primary and secondary data for detailed research and analysis, and it is designed to answer the following research questions: What is energy? Is energy security provided in the Caucasus and Caspian Basin Region? Is there stability in the countries in the region? What are the policies of the global and regional powers towards the Caucasus and the Caspian Basin Region?
