Entrepreneurial exit in the Middle East and North Africa

This study investigates the main determinants of entrepreneurial exit in the Middle East and North Africa region, through the employment of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) Adult Population Survey (APS) Data. We estimate that human capital, financial capital, social capital, gender, and age have contrasting effects on entrepreneurial exit. Through our analysis, we have discerned that the MENA region shares similar determinants of exit with the world, with the exception of gender. It is found that male entrepreneurs have a higher exit rate than female entrepreneurs. The results suggest policy makers must begin incorporating educational programs to cultivate entrepreneurs from a younger age, in addition to encouraging entrepreneurial culture in order to reinforce MENA's entrepreneurial prospects for the future.
