Comparative analysis of sportive, financial and financial fair play performance of football clubs traded on borsa Istanbul with entropy based TOPSIS method

In this study, the transformation that football has undergone in recent years is examined around the concept of industrial football. The UEFA licensing criteria have been investigated elaborately. As for the main research subject of this thesis, it is aimed to analyze financial performance, financial fair play performance and sportive performance of four major football clubs in Turkey by using multi criteria decision making techniques as well as to identify the relation among them. TOPSIS is selected as the multi criteria decision making technique to perform those task and entropy method is used for weighting. To summarize the results of the study, a strong correlation is detected between financial performance and sportive performance of Besiktas and Galatasaray football clubs. Fenerbahce football club reflects a more prominent financial performance for related years. Trabzonspor football club ranks the first for the last two seasons with regard to the performance evaluation which is carried out by considering financial fair play criteria. As a general conclusion, a low correlation was found between financial fair play performance ranks and other performance ranks, and a high correlation was found between sportive performance and financial performance.
