Hero in epic illustration and a graphic epic example: Visiual storyline of the Alpamysh Epic

This research includes examination of the illustrations made for the selected heroic epics and introduction of graphic novel have been made for the Alpamysh epic. This research, which is the first example of examining the heroic epic and the hero in the history of Graphic Design, focuses on which aesthetic and cultural values epic hero has been designed by artists for hundreds of years. First of all, summaries of selected heroic epics are given, then the book illustrations made for these epics are examined. These studies have also been evaluated in terms of aesthetics and being the reflections of the cultural values from epic originated. At the end of these evaluations, a history of heroism has mentioned through the book illustration. In the research, heroic epic and hero connection has examined in depth and the effect of heroic narratives on the history of book illustration have emphasized. While mentioning the importance of hero model for societies and individuals in the past and today, the roots of today's fictional hero has investigated. At the same time, the importance of hero model, which has been carried in cultural memory for thousands of years, has been investigated in terms of society and art. The negative impact of the fictional superhero universe of DC and Marvel, the pantheon of the modern world, on local cultures, and the ties of cultural memory, epic and hero are clearly revealed through a mythological analysis. Alpamysh epic, which is the art project of the research, has been examined in the necessary aspects within the integrity of the project, and examples of book illustrations related to the epic have been introduced. The effects of the epic and the characters were written by summarizing the Uzbek variant of the Alpamysh epic compiled by Fazıl Yoldash ogli. This chapter includes a detailed analysis of Alpamysh as a hero. In the last part, character drawings and pages from the visual narrative application for Alpamysh have introduced.
