Investigation of the effects of some properties of epileptic children in school life

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of some characteristics of children with epilepsy on school life. Method: Epidemic children between the ages of 10-18 were enrolled in the research sphere, registered at the Neurology Clinic of Şişli Hamidiye Etfal Education and Research Hospital. 110 epileptic children who met the sampling criteria and voluntarily agreed to participate in the study were included in the study. Written consent has been obtained from the ethics committee, hospitals, children and their families. In the collection of research data, the "Factors Affecting the School Experience of Children" and "Parent Form", which contain the sociodemographic characteristics of the epileptic child and their parents, were used. In the evaluation of the data, percentage, mean and chi-square tests will be used in the analysis of the quantitative data. The results of the research were analyzed by using computer. In the analyzes, descriptive methods were evaluated by chi-square test. P <0.05 was considered significant. Results: According to the results of our study, children were 12.9 ± 2.1 years old, 1.9 ± 0.6 years with epilepsy and 19.1 ± 36.8 days without school attendance. It was determined that 12,7% of the children left the school, 56,4% were middle of the course success and 14,5% were bad. The children were found to have problems with school, friends and teachers. Conclusion: In this study, factors affecting school life of epileptic children were determined. Duration of illness and seizure frequency were found to be factors affecting the school life of the child. Suggestions have been made for the active participation of the nurses during the training planning, training program and counseling for the child, family and teachers.
