The effect of watching video with virtual reality glasses during epiziotomy repair on pain, anxiety and satisfaction

Aim: The study aimed to determine the effect of watching videos with virtual reality glasses on pain, anxiety and satisfaction during episiotomy repair. Methods: The data of the randomized controlled experimental study was conducted between June and December 2022 in the delivery room of a public hospital in Konya. The population of the study consisted of all primiparous pregnant women who applied to the hospital to give birth. The research sample consisted of 88 (44 intervention, 44 control) pregnant women who agreed to participate in the study between the specified dates. The study was concluded with a total of 82 participants. Research data; It was collected with an information form prepared by the researcher, labor monitoring form, state anxiety scale, visual analog scale-pain, satisfaction status evaluation scale and form. The study was analyzed using t test, chi-square, Pearson correlation and logistic regression tests in dependent and independent groups. Results: A statistically significant difference was found in the visual analog scale-pain averages of women in the control and intervention groups before and after episiotomy. The mean state anxiety score of women in the intervention group decreased after the application of virtual reality glasses. It was determined that the satisfaction visual analog scale scores of women who were watched videos with virtual reality glasses were high. It was determined that 92.7% of the women in the intervention group said that virtual reality glasses were effective in reducing their pain, and that all of the women wanted to use virtual reality glasses in their future births and would recommend them to other pregnant women. Conclusions: It was determined that watching videos with virtual reality glasses during episiotomy repair was effective in reducing the pain and anxiety levels of women, and they were satisfied with watching videos with virtual reality glasses.
