Abstract (EN)
19th century was aperiod of many innovations and changes for the Ottoman Empire. One of those inovations was carrying out a census throughout the country. The first modern census in the Ottoman state was conducted in 1831 during the reign of MahmudII. The aim of the census was to provide troops tothe new army and toindentify the taxpayer population. One of the provinces where the census was carried out during the Mahmud II period was Sivas. In this study, the population of Erbaa and its settlements Taşabad, Sonisa and Karayaka were examined according to the censuses conducted between 1830-1850. Population records of the mentioned settlements were obtained from the Presidency of the State Archives. With this study, there are very few ones on this topic, it is tried to reveal a missing part of the history of Erbaa which is a district of Tokat today.
