Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACTToday, it has become necessary to deal with the water resources problems by studies onregional basis or even on the basis of river basin. In this thesis, considering the water qualityas a limiting factor for the Ergene Basin, it was decided that an analysis of the variation ofwater quality with respect to years is necessary, and therefore, the identification of waterquality classes was aimed at using a software package program (MapInfo).Ergene Basin has the most important agricultural areas of Turkey and also a significantindustrial power. The most important livelihood resource of the basin is agricultural activities. Therefore, providing agricultural water takes first place in beneficial uses priorities. Theindustrial water used supplies the water requirements such as process water, boiler water andcooling water. The purified and unpurified disposal water of industries in the basin isdischarged into the river as a point source. In addition, the disposal waters from agriculturalareas and the disposal waters of villages, small towns and districts in this basin are directly orindirectly discharged into the Ergene River. The type of geographical information system dealing with environmental information is calledenvironmental information system. Environmental information system analyzes the physical, chemical and biological structure of environment and their effects on the environment.Performing analyses for environment, for example, by processing of all kinds of data andinformation about the distribution and variation of air pollution, plant cover, coast pollution, natural resources, geological and ecological structures with respect to geographical regions, environmental management and control are among the basic processes of environmentalinformation systems.During the Ergene Basin Environmental Information System formation work, various queriesand analyses planned on screen map were performed to check if the system meets theexpectations. The environmental information system developed can be a background to future work on alarger environmental information system by adding air pollutant elements.KeywordsErgene Basin, environmental information system, surface water pollution, MapInfoVIII
