The research of the relationship betweeen peer bullying and emotional intelligence in adolescents

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the peer bullying behaviours and emotional intelligence in adolescent children. This research is a descriptive study and in all, 691 secondary education students attending 9., 10. And 11. grade constitute the participant of the study. The data has been collected from total 4 schools including two vocational highschoolS and two highschoolS taking into consideration the low and high socioeconomic level. While collecting the data of the research, it IS used "Bar-on Emotional Intelligence Scale" in order to identify the level of emotional intelligence; " The Scale on Defining the Victims of Peer Bullying" in order to identify the victims of peer bullying; "The Scale on Defining the Peer Bullying" so as to identify the bully students and "Personal Data Form" to obtain personal data. In the research, the sub-problems of the research have been investigated by using the techniques such as descriptive statistics, chi square, Cramer V, T-test and One-Way Analysis of Variance.In result, it's found that the numbers and the rates of the participants taking part in various bullying status are 61 bullies (% 8.8), 66 victims (% 9.5), 39 bullies/victims (% 5.36) and 525 uninvolved (% 76). It's defined that the most common bullying behaviour was "teasing or ridiculing" (% 1.08). It is seen that the bullying which deals mainly with verbal is apparently more common than the other types of bullying. It is seen that the rate of uninvolved and bully is higher on girls and the rate of victim is higher on boys and also the rate of bully/victim displays similarity with regard to gender. It couldn't be found a significant difference in terms of the grade levels. It is counted that the interpersonal skills of the bully men and those who don't involve in bullying (=37,03) are significantly more than the bully girls and those who don't involve in bullying (=32,15). On the other hand; it is discovered that the levels of girls' coping with stress in the entire status of bullying(=42,31) are more in comparison with men(=38,47). It isn't found significant discrepancies about the other emotional intelligence dimensions of adolescents who are in the event of bully, victim, bully/victim and uninvolved.It is found that the differences based upon the level of grade in the extent of emotional intelligence of the adolescents taking place in the statues of bully, victim, bully/victim aren't meaningful; on the other hand, as the grade level of the adolescents taking part in the statues of uninvolved increases, the total scores of interpersonal skills, personal skills and emotional intelligence decrease.
