The relationship between perceived helicopter parental attitude with trait anger and anger expression styles in adolescents

This study was conducted as a descriptive and correlational research to examine the relationship with perceived helicopter parental attitude and trait anger and anger expression styles in adolescents. The study was conducted between 01.09.2023-31.12.2023 with 365 adolescents between the ages of 13-18 in 4 high schools affiliated to Yozgat Provincial Directorate of National Education. Before starting the study, permission was obtained from Yozgat Provincial Directorate of National Education and Yozgat Bozok University Social and Human Sciences Ethics Committee. Personal Information Form, Perceived Helicopter Parent Attitude Scale, Trait Anger and Anger Expression Scale were used to collect the data. In the study, it was determined that the mean helicopter parental attitude scores of adolescents perceived from their mothers and fathers were at a moderate level. It was determined that adolescents perceived helicopter attitudes from their parents mostly in ethical and moral issues and academic and school life. It was found that male adolescents perceived their mothers and fathers as helicopter parents more than female adolescents. It was found that adolescents in 9th and 10th grades perceived their mothers and fathers as helicopter parents more than adolescents in 11th and 12th grades (p<0.05). The mean scores of trait anger, anger expression style scores of the adolescents participating in the study were at a moderate level.It was determined that there was a significant difference between the type of parental behaviour perceived in childhood and trait anger and anger expression styles of adolescents (p<0.05). In the study, it was determined that there was a significant positive relationship between helicopter mother and father attitude and anger. In the study, there was also a significant positive relationship between mother and father helicopter attitudes. In line with the findings, it is recommended that pediatric nurses take preventive measures regarding the mental health of children and adolescents
