A qualitative study on the relationship between digital addiction, loneliness, psychological resilience and religiosity in adolescents

The main aim of this study was to investigate the effects of digital addiction and loneliness levels among high school students on psychological resilience and religiosity through. A quantitative research method was utilized, and data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS software package and SEM. "Digital Addiction Scale", 'Loneliness Scale', 'Psychological Resilience Scale' and 'Religiosity Scale' were used as measurement tools in the study. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 642 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th grade students between the ages of 13-18 studying in different high school types. Findings indicated that the levels of digital addiction and loneliness among participants were moderate, while psychological resilience was slightly above average. Digital addiction was significantly higher among female students, upper-grade students, and those in the lower-middle income group. Loneliness levels were notably higher among vocational high school students, lower-income groups, and students living in smaller settlements. Furthermore, permissive and authoritarian family attitudes increased students' levels of digital addiction and loneliness. Analyses revealed that digital addiction negatively affected psychological resilience, while loneliness had strong negative effects on both psychological resilience and religiosity. Additionally, as psychological resilience increased, religiosity levels decreased. In conclusion, the findings provide substantial contributions to the literature and practical applications. It is recommended that future research include diverse school types and larger samples. Additionally, developing school-based intervention programs aimed at combating digital addiction and loneliness is crucial.
