Investigation of the relationships between resilience, positive future expectancy and coping with stress in adolescents

The aim of this thesis is to examine the relationships between resilience, positive future expectations and coping with stress levels among adolescent students. This study adopted a correlational survey design, a quantitative research methodology. The sample comprised 840 adolescents, ranging in age from 13 to 17, studying in various high school types in the Muş province. Participants included 47.86% (n = 402) males and 52.14% (n = 438) females, with a mean age of 15.16 years (SD = 1.16). Data were collected using a Personal Information Form, the Child and Youth Resilience Measure (CYRM-12), the Positive Future Expectancy Scale (PFES) and the Adolescent Coping Scale (ACS). The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and regression analysis techniques. The research findings indicated statistically significant relationships among the examined variables. Regression analyses revealed that positive future expectancy and active coping strategies significantly predicted adolescent resilience. Conversely, it was concluded that the avoidant coping strategy did not have a significant predictive effect on resilience. These findings are discussed within the context of the relevant literature, and based on these results, recommendations are provided for practitioners, policymakers, and future researchers.
