The invastgation of the relationship between subjective well-being and interpersonal relationship styles of adolescents

Abstract (EN)
The main aim of this study was to examine the relationship between subjective well-being and interpersonal relation styles of adolescents. Besides this main aim subjective well-being of adolescents was investigated according to some personal and demographic variables such as gender, grade level, perceived income level and perceived parental attitudes. In this study relational and descriptive survey models were used. The population of study had been composed of the adolescents from the Anatolian High School and Vocational and Technical Anatolian High Schools in state secondary schools in Tuzla district of İstanbul at 2016-2017 school-term. The research sample consists of total 602 (313 female and 289 male) adolescents with the mean age was X̅ = 16.48 (S=1,74) from four different schools and different class levels which selected by convenience and random sampling method. In this study Subjective Well-Being Scale High School Form, Interpersonal Relation Styles Scale and Personal-Demographical Form were used for data collection. For the analysis Spearman Brown's Rank Correlation Coefficient Test was used for to determine the relations between subjective well being and interpersonal relation styles and Mann-Whitney U Test with Benferroni correction and Kruskal-Wallis H Test were used for group comparisons for personal and demographical qualities. The results of study showed that there were significant negative correlations between subjective well being and interpersonal relation styles. The negative correlations between subjective well-being level and interpersonal relation styles were ranked from high to low as; insensitive, avoidant, dominant, manipulative, furious and sarcastic style. It was also found that the subjective well-being levels of adolescents were differentiated according to their class levels, perceived income level and perceived parent attitudes, but not for gender. The subjective well being of adolescents from 9nd class level (junior) were found significantly higher then 10nd class level. It was found that adolescents who perceived their income level as middle and high have significantly higher subjective well-being than those who perceived their income level as low. There were the subjective well-being of adolescents who perceive their parental attitudes as democratic was higher than that of the adolescents who perceived their parents as authoritative, protective, careless, inconsistent. At the same time there were the level of subjective well-being of adolescents who perceived their parents as protective was higher than that of the adolescents who perceived their parents as inconsistent.
