Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study was to investigate the psychological well-being and mindfulness levels of adolescents in terms of various demographic variables. This study also aimed to test the predictive roles of mindfulness and various demographic variables on psychological well-being levels of adolescents. The research was a descriptive study carried out with the correlational survey method. While the population of the research was composed of secondary school and high school adolescents in Siirt, the sample consisted of 591 (256 female, 335 male) 8th and 9th graders of adolescents. In the study, the data were obtained from the Personal Information Form reflecting the demographic information of adolescents, Psychological Well-Being Scale and Mindfulness Scale. The data collected from adolescents were processed in SPSS 22 program and tested with Independent Samples T Test, One Way Variance Analysis (ANOVA), Pearson Correlation Analysis and Hierarchical Regression Analysis. As a result of the research, while the psychological well-being level of adolescents differed in terms of school type, academic success, parent education level, number of siblings and level of socioeconomic income; it was not differed in terms of age, gender and grade level. On the other hand, although mindfulness level of adolescents differed in terms of school type and academic success; no difference was found in age, gender, grade level, parent education level, number of siblings and socioeconomic income. The results of the current study revealed that there was a positive and significant relationship between psychological well-being and mindfulness. The results of the hierarchical regression analysis, performed with the two-stage model, revealed that, while academic success and socioeconomic income levels were found to be a significant predictors of psychological well being of adolescents in the first model, socioeconomic income level, school type and mindfulness variables were the significant predictors. As a result of the analysis, it was concluded that mindfulness (%11.7) was found to be the major predictor of psychological well being of adolescents with %14.2 explained variance. The findings of the research were discussed in the light of the literature. Implications and recommendations were presented based for the future research and practitioners.
