Abstract (EN)

Bisphenol A (BFA), available in plastic materials widely used in our daily lives, is used in household products, inner lining of food and drink containers and medical and dental treatment materials. BFA is a toxic compound from alkylphenols which can be taken into human body through the food chain, drinking water and inhalation. Vitamin D is a steroid hormone which is generated photochemically in the epidermis and which has positive effects on sperm quality and reproductive fertility. Our study aims to review histologically the effects of Vitamin D on treatment of testicular damage caused by BFA. 30 Wistar Albino species 8 week old male rats were used in the study. The rates were divided into 5 groups of 6. The rats in Group I were identified as the control group. The rats in Group II were administered 25mg/kg/day Bisphenol A solved in 0.5ml olive oil through oral gavage for 4 weeks. The rats in Group III were administered 25mg/kg/day Bisphenol A solved in 0.5ml olive oil through oral gavage for 4 weeks and then 50IU/day Vitamin D3 through oral gavage for 2 weeks. The rats in Group IV were administered 50IU/day Vitamin D3 oral drops for 2 weeks. The rats in Group V were administered 0.5ml/day olive oil through oral gavage for 4 weeks. After completion of implementation, alterations in testicle tissues were examined histochemically and immunohistochemically with the light microscope. The findings were displayed with Olympus BH 2 photomicroscope. Our review of the group treated with BFA (Group II) with the light microscope concluded that BFA caused significant degenerations, atrophy, edema, impairment in basal lamina and generation of a limited number of apoptotic cells in the testicle tissue. Vitamin D, used to treat toxic effects of BFA in Group III, exhibited a similar histological structure in general in the testicle tissue to the control group. Similar histological structures were observed in the testicle tissues in group IV only treated with Vitamin D and in the testicle tissues in group V only treated with olive oil. It has been concluded that Vitamin D has curative effects on testicular damage caused by BFA and can provide positive results in trial of new treatment approaches.
