Development of the Honor Perception Scales for men and women

Title: Development of Honor Perception Scales for Men and Women Aim: This study aimed to develop valid and reliable measurement tools that determine the honor perception of individuals aged 18-65 towards women and men in society. Method: An item pool containing 142 items was created as a result of the literature review and the experiences of the researchers. After the recommendation of the ethics committee and expert opinions, the number of items in the item pool was reduced to 60. Finally, the internal consistency was examined and the number of items was reduced to 45 after receiving 12 expert opinions. The first pilot study was conducted with 91 participants. The second pilot study, with the remaining 33 perception statements after the content validity, was conducted with 54 participants. Data were collected with the remaining 29 perception statements as a result of the analysis. The universe of the study consisted of 673 participants selected by a simple random sampling method from a randomly determined province from each of the seven regions of Turkey. The data were collected online between December 2023 and January 2024 using the "General Information Form", "Informed Consent Form" and "Honor Perception Scale (HPS)".Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical methods, SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) 25.0 and AMOS 21 software. Findings: Differences were observed in the factor analysis and Cronbach's alpha scores of the expression and sub-dimensions of honor perception for men and women. Therefore, the "Honor Perception Scale" was divided into "Honor Perception Scale for Women" and "Honor Perception Scale for Men".Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis confirmed that the scales had two sub-dimensional structures. The Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient of the Honor Perception Scale for Women was calculated as α=0.934, and the Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient of the Honor Perception Scale for Men was calculated as α=0.849. Conclusion: The developed "Honor Perception Scales for Men and Women" are valid and reliable.
