Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study is determining how strength training applied to the boys on Puberty period affect general coordination. There are 85 voluntary boys aged 13.35±1.10 (year), and 162.02±9.47 (cm) in height in this study. There are five groups in this study: TE (n=18): The group given only technical tennis training, TEST (n=17): The group having tennis and strength training, TECO (n=12): The group having tennis and coordination training, TESTCO (n=18): The group having tennis, strength and coordination training, CON (n=20): Control group. The boys were classified according to Tanner?s sexual development phases. The boys whose testis volume is supposed to be between 10-14 ml. as assumed in rapid growth period were distributed to each group equally. In the beginning and end of the study all the boys were given these tests (Anthropometric Measures, Sit-Up, Long Jump, Push-Up, Bent Arm Pull, Isokinetic Strength, Hand Grip, Test Of Ball Carrying with Racket, Double Hand-Eye Coordination Test, Mirror Tracing Test, Rotary Pursuit, Flamingo Balance Test, Minnesota Manuel Dexterity). The testis volume of all the boys who attended this study is 13.40±6.54 ml. There were no significant differences among the testis volumes of the groups (p>0.05). According to Tanner?s sexual development evaluation the phases of all the group are 3.58±1.18. There were no significant differences among the phases of the groups (p>0,05). According to the findings we could say that all the test subjects are in the period of puberty (or rapid growth period) and are all alike in terms of age and sexual development phases. When the pre and post tests of the group were compared, there were no significant differences in the parameters of height, BMI, double hand-eye coordination duration, mirror tracing test, rotary pursuit, test of ball carrying with racket, isokinetic strength, push-up, hand grip (right) (p<0.05). But there were no significant differences when we compared the parameters of weight, double hand-eye coordination error, kinesthesis, tennis skill, balance, sit-up, long jump, bent arm pull, hand grip (left) (p>0.05). There were no significant differences results among the groups when compared (p>0.05).Consequently, we have found that the strength training applied to this age group do not affect the coordination development. Keywords : Coordination, Strength, Puberty, Tennis.
