Abstract (EN)
Trichomoniosis is a parasitic infection which occurs with the settlement of Trichomonas vaginalis in female and also male urinary and reproductive tracts. In males this infection generally appears asymptomaticly and males are thought as a carrier for transmission of the infection. In this study our aim was detection of the parasitic infection in undiagnosted males by Nested PCR method. Our study involved 138 urine samples which are belongs to males between 18-50 ages who are suffering from urinary tract infection. Samples were collected between December 2013 - May 2014 from Urology clinics in Malatya Inonu Universty Turgut Ozal Medical Center. Urine samples were investigated by direct microscopy, culture and Nested PCR methods. In the Nested PCR analysis, we detected T.vaginalis infection in 9 (%6.5) patients, however there weren't any T.vaginalis trophozoites in the direct microscopy and culture investigations. Moreover there was a statistically significant difference between urinary tract infection and T.vaginalis positive patient groups. As conclusion, the Nestedm PCR analysis is the most sensitive and accurate method for detection of the asymptomatic male carrier. We recommend strongly using of the Nested PCR method for diagnostic purpose.
