Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, emotion regulation skills and perceived parental attitudes of prisoners with antisocial personality disorder were examined in terms of psychopathological symptoms. The aim of this study is to determine whether there is a relationship between the perceived parenting styles and emotion regulation of prisoners with and without antisocial personality disorder in terms of psychopathology, and to examine the role they play in psychopathological symptoms. In this context, it consists of adult male detainees found in Antalya E Type Closed/Open Penitentiary Institution for criminal offenses after the necessary legal permissions are obtained. 30 prisoners diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder and 31 prisoners without any psychiatric diagnosis were studied. Data were collected using the Demographic Information Form, the Difficulty in Emotion Regulation Scale, the Abbreviated Perceived Parental Attitudes Scale and the Brief Symptom Inventory. Mann-Whitney U test was applied to see the difference between the scales of the two groups in the study. Logistic regression analysis was performed to predict the scale total scores and sociodemographic variables being antisocial personality disorder. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that prisoners with antisocial personality disorder had more difficulties in emotion regulation than the other group (without antisocial personality disorder diagnosis), especially their impulse control and strategy sub-dimension scores. When we look at the perceived parental attitudes, rejecting and overprotective attitudes are found to be high in individuals with antisocial personality disorder, while emotional intimacy is higher in the group without antisocial personality disorder. At the same time, hostility, anxiety, and somatization complaints were found to be higher in prisoners diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder. In addition to these, it has been observed that antisocial personality disorder prisoners are more likely to be involved in crimes at an early age, commit crimes repeatedly, and go to prison more often.
