Abstract (EN)

Investigation of the change of semen quality by years in menThe present study has been planned and realized in order to determine the possible change in semen quality of men by years. For this purpose, the data obtained from 24.953 man who had applied and given semen sample to Duzen Laboratory Group in Ankara between years 1995 and first half of 2011 was used. For evaluating the semen quality, semen volume, sperm concentration, total sperm count and sperm mobility parameters were used. In the study, semen volume (mL), sperm concentration (106/mL), total sperm count and sperm mobility values (A(+4),B(+3),C(+2),D(+1)) were evaluated and presented specially and by age statistically. In this study people whose concentration of sperm is below 20X106/mL and above 250X106/mL more excluded and people who are above 50 years age are also excluded from the study. In addition, 18-50 years old men who gave semen samples between years 1995-2011 were grouped into 5 categories by age (18-25, 26-30, 31-35, 36-40,41-50) and semen parameters were investigations in terms of age.According to results obtained, between years 1995-2011 sperm concentrations and C mobility levels have decreased. Although, there is an increase in semen volume and A(+4) and B(+3) mobility levels, those are not statistically significant (p>0.05). Sperm concentrations tend to decrease in the years in all age groups except 41-50 age group and semen volume increase in 18-25 and 26-30 age groups. Parallel to this increase, the total sperm count was found to increase in 18-26 and 26-30 age groups and decrease in 31-35 and 36-40 age groups and to decrease in 31-35 and 36-40 age groups. For 41-50 age group statistically increase or decrease was not found. C(+2) mobility level is a parameter in which significantly decrease was found in all age groups and in the study generally. In Turkey, the number of studies reporting man semen quality and morphology are limited and far from providing a general view. The presented study is the original first one in terms of number of men and years evaluated.
