The effect of male role norms and threatened manhood on dating violence at university

In this research, the relationship between the attitudes of university students towards dating violence and towards male role norms and threat to manhood was investigated. Also, it was investigated whether the students' attitudes towards dating violence with respect to their dating relation status, exposure to violence in a dating relation and inflicting violence in a dating relation exposure to violence in family and inflicting violence in family or not. The sample of this research consisted of 510 students who study at Gaziantep University during 2016-2017 academic year. In this research, ''The Attitudes towards Dating Violence Scales; Attitudes towards Male Psychological Dating Violence Scale and Attitudes towards Male Physical Dating Violence Scale,", ''Male Role Norms Scale", "Perceived Threat to Manhood Scale" and "Personal Information Form" were used as data collection tools. During the data analysis, Pearson's Moment Correlation Analysis and t-test were used. As a result of the research, it was determined that university students' attitudes towards dating violence correlated with their perception of masculinity roles positively, lowly and significantly. Perceived threat to manhood did not significantly correlated with attitudes towards dating violence. A significant difference in the students' attitudes towards dating violence with demographic variables was not observed.
