Timbral and rhythmical orchestration styles in the orchestral music of the early 20th century

The positive and negative impacts which were made by the instrumentation1 and orchestration2 styles in the written large scale symphonic orchestral works dating from the end of the 19th century (1890) to the first quarter of the 20th century (1930) can be explained with the help of timbral and rhythmical elements which were redesigned in the music of 20th century. In the traditonal style, in spite of the fact that orchestration and instrumentation seem to be independent techniques, they cannot be separated from each other and they always complete each other as basic elements of the whole. In this aspect, above-mentioned two significant musical elements were developed, enlarged and enriched in the structural and systematic manner in the 20th century. Timbral and rhythmical orchestration styles in the first quarter of the 20th century left a great mark especially in Europe and contributed to the development of the music of the century. In this present paper, it is the primary purpose to contribute to the understanding of Orchestration styles which were enriched with timbral and ryhthmical elements in the Orchestral Music of the Early 20th Century.
