Spatial analysis of industrial complexes in the Early Republican Period of Turkey: Nazilli, Kayseri, Bursa and Eskişehir case studies

Since its declaration, the Republican Government of Turkey had aimed to establish an "independent" country and applied a project of contemporization and modernization. This project had different dimensions appealing to the institutional, economical, social and civics aspects of Turkey. The economical dimension included the industrialization and economical independence of Turkey. The early republican period had been an economical development process for Turkish Republican Government. During this period, the private sector had been granted many privileges in order to realize the industrialization of Turkey, but due to the lack of enough capital and experiment, the private sector coud not answer the expectations of Government. Hence, a state-ruling economical system had to be applied. From the beginning of 1930' s, the government undertook the economical course of Turkey with introducing many legislations and new applications. The First Five Year Industrialization Plan of Turkey which was prepared in 1932 and had been put into practice in 1934 was a plan which had aimed to set up factories producing main consumer goods among Turkey's different regions. This plan was applied according to the governments modernization plan all through the country. The places for the factories had been choosen among the small towns af Anatolia that took place on the railway system. Factories yielded employment, increase of populatin, industrialization and urbanization of the regions where they had been set up. They played effective roles in public and their worker's lives with their infrastructure, health and educational services and recreational facilities.
