Contribution of female painters to Turkish Painting Art in the early republic period

In this thesis, while explaining the contribution of women painters to Turkish Painting Art in the Early Republican Period and the efforts of the society to adapt to the contemporary order, the role of Turkish women as an artist in the society is shed light on. The development of art in the modernization process from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic of Turkey and the place and importance of women in this process have been investigated. In the transformation process after the declaration of the Republic; thanks to the revolutions carried out by Atatürk and his staff that aim to ensure the gender equality, the thesis focuses on these political rights of Turkish women who gained them earlier than other women in developed world. While explaining affirmative developments in favor of women in this process, the struggle against sexist approaches and male-dominated ideologies that force women to stay within their own borders is also explicated. In addition, it was aimed to investigate the efforts, place and originality of women painters in the period that evolved from traditional to modern, and their effects on contemporary Turkish painting. Literature review was used as the method of this study.
