Investigation of poultry motifs in early period Turkish mythology and application to ceramic forms and surfaces

Winged animal figures are important facts of Turkish culture and mythology. It is seen that these motifs have a great importance in the political, social and cultural lives of the Turks, from the Proto Turks, whose existence was accepted 3000 years and before, to the present day. In ancient Turkish formations, poultry characters draw attention with different qualities and adjectives. These motifs are frequently found in the mythology of the old Turkish communities, which deal with the socio-cultural lives. Winged animal figures are found in many historical written and visual finds. It is noteworthy that these motifs, which maintain their importance for Turkish society today, are used in many disciplines of art and are mostly seen in ceramic art among these disciplines. In the art of ceramics, there are winged animal motifs made using different application techniques such as underglaze, over glaze and relief technique. This thesis is composed of three parts; The first part consists of the conceptual framework and related research, the second part consists of findings and interpretation, and the third part consists of the research model and application studies of the thesis. In this research, the history of the Poultry Motifs in Early Period Turkish Mythology and the purpose of their construction were investigated, and it was aimed to share the application examples together with the results.
